Hainan Macun Port Area: The New Freight Engine of the Free Trade Port

Located within Chengmai Bay in Chengmai County, Hainan Macun Port Area serves as the core freight hub within Haikou Port's “one port, three zones” structure. With the island-wide customs clearance operation scheduled for 2025, Macun Port is seizing a historic development opportunity, accelerating its transformation from a traditional freight terminal into a modern, intelligent integrated logistics center.

According to the Haikou Port Master Plan (2035), the port area primarily handles container and bulk cargo transportation while also accommodating oil, gas, chemical, and roll-on/roll-off cargo. Its core mission is to assume the freight functions previously handled by Xiuying Port Area, optimizing port resource allocation through strategic restructuring. This adjustment aims to alleviate port-city conflicts in Haikou's main urban area while unlocking significant industrial development potential.

The Phase III project, commencing construction in December 2024, marks a milestone in the port area's development. With a total investment of approximately 4.2 billion yuan, it plans to build one 70,000-ton container berth, one 30,000-ton container berth, and three 20,000-ton multipurpose berths, designed to handle 1.67 million TEUs annually. This project signifies Ma Village Port's entry into a new era of accommodating large international container vessels.

Moving forward, Ma Village Port Area will leverage its deep-water shoreline resources and advantageous geographical location to vigorously develop port-adjacent industries, fostering deep integration between port operations, industrial development, and urban growth. It will not only serve as a vital node connecting Hainan to global trade but also act as a powerful engine supporting the construction of the free trade port's logistics system and driving high-quality regional economic development.
